Approval

This scene came to me the other day.

FADE IN - INTERIOR WORKPLACE

Typical workplace. Store. Bank. Etc. A CUSTOMER stands on one side of the counter, an EMPLOYEE stands on the other.

We join them in mid-conversation as the Customer has just asked for something.

EMPLOYEE:
"Sorry, I need approval from my manager."

CUSTOMER (JOKING):
"Don't we all?"

EMPLOYEE:
"Yes. Well I'm afraid I can't do that right now."

CUSTOMER:
"Really? Why not?"

EMPLOYEE:
"He died an hour ago."

CUSTOMER:
"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."

EMPLOYEE (NO EMOTION):
"It's fine."

He turns his head and we PAN with his line of sight to find a LARGE EGG. It begins to pulsate and hatch. We watch as it opens to reveal a MANAGER. He is already wearing a suit.

He calmly walks over.

MANAGER:
"I am the new manager."

EMPLOYEE (TO CUSTOMER):
"Okay, NOW I can do it."

FADE OUT.
